ABOUT
Simon d'Urso is a self taught muti-disciplinary artist born in La Ciotat, France, in the summer of 1996.
Raised on the seaside and working as a fish merchant, his inspirations come mainly from what's underwater.
Finding beauty in the ugly and peace in the chaos, he does embrace imperfections of the human being as that of his work.
Looking more for how it feels than how it looks, the artwork is more a witness of what happened and came across his mind during the making of the piece itself than a finished product with an initial thought of what it should look like.
Simon defines himself as a Jazzman playing with paint on canvas.
Every artwork is the fruit of a complete improvisation where marine animals are often the metaphor of something else than just themselves.
A fish can be a fish as much as it can be a girl or a thought.
Blending childish drawings, music lyrics, philosophycal thoughts, poetic sentences and anatomycal facts, each piece from his work results in a meaningfull poetic puzzle.
Despite his love and use of colors, his creative process is primarly driven by the dark. The quest for happiness is endless as it should be because a dance with the devil seems to last forever.
